What is Hyaluronic Acid injection?

Hyaluronic acid is an important tissue of the dermis of the human skin. Its main function is to lock moisture in the dermis, which will maintain skin elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid has been used in medical practice for the last 60 years. In the beginning, Hyaluronic Acid was extracted from animals (e.g. cockscomb). Orthopedic surgeons used it to treat degenerative arthritis. By 1980, biomed technicians were able to synthetically generate hyaluronic acid en mass. Many cosmetic companies started to sell skin care products containing hyaluronic acid (6-9%). December 18, 2003,FDA approved Restylane , which is a non-animal source hyaluronic acid at 20% concentration. Although not extracted from an animal source, it is only different from natural hyaluronic acid by 1%. As such, it is the best injected filler for the dermis.
